Harvest 2022
We're heading into November and with the first snowfall just arriving, it's hard to believe that we were harvesting our barley and hops just a few weeks ago!
This year's weather for crops in Manitoba was a big swing from last year. From the driest weather in decades last year, to a long and snowy winter 2021-2022, to this spring where Manitoba was struck with three Colorado lows in three weeks, resulting in a long rainy spring and wet fields, which delayed seeding.
Despite these stresses, once the wet fields dried up, and seeding and the growing season got underway, the harvest resulted in average to above-average yields for most crops.
However the average harvest time period was also delayed a couple of weeks as well, so it was a late harvest on average for MB farmers.
After Lawrence did our hops and barley harvest, he helped out our Uncle Julian with his wheat harvest. Uncle Julian just turned 80 years old and like our dad, farmed his entire life. Farming is the lifeblood of a prairie province like Manitoba!
